Area Info & Amenities
Put-in-Bay is a summer resort area on South Bass Island in the western basin of Lake Erie, just off the coast of Port Clinton and Sandusky, Ohio. Since the mid-1880s, visitors from all over the country have been coming to Put-in-Bay for the boating, recreational and entertainment opportunities which abound here.
The Victorian main street, Delaware Avenue, is the heart of this island paradise. With numerous gift shops, restaurants and bars surrounding idyllic DeRivera Park, there is something for everyone. For most of the summer, live music can be found from lunchtime until the wee hours, from classic rock & roll, today's country and pop hits, all the way to local musical luminaries like Pat Dailey, Bob Gatewood & Ray Fogg.
Most visitors get to the island on 1 of the 2 ferry lines servicing the island. Miller Boat Line departs from Catawba Island, at the end of Rt. 53N, and The Jet Express has departures from Port Clinton, on Rt. 163, as well as from downtown Sandusky, Ohio.
Goodtime Cruises also offers excursions from Sandusky, stopping at Kelleys Island, on its way to Put-in-Bay.
Once on the island, most guests choose golf carts as the main mode of transportation. The carts are licensed as automobiles here on the island, so all Ohio traffic laws apply as you tour around our island home. Click here for more info on our cart & bike rentals.
For those wanting to get a little history while on the island, The Put-in-Bay Tour Train offers regular tours, leaving from the Downtown Depot.
